Food & Water Watch is a leading national consumer advocacy organization that runs dynamic, cutting edge campaigns that challenge the corporate control and abuse of our food and water resources, empower people to take action and transform the public consciousness about what we eat and drink. We are currently seeking interns interested in fighting for safe food, clean water, and healthy oceans.  Hours are flexible in relaxed office environment in Washington, DC. Internships are available in our collegial office environment during any of the following terms.

  • Fall: This position may be full- or part-time (~15 hours per week minimum). Spring dates are January-May. Fall term dates are September – December (credit only).
  • Summer: This position is full-time and runs for 10 weeks during May-August. Small stipends may be available for summer interns.

The Social Media Intern coordinates online marketing and Web communications campaigns on Food & Water Watch’s top issues. The Social Media Intern is part of the communications department and reports to the Senior Digital Strategist and is matrixed to the film director/staff.

 

Responsibilities include (and are not limited to):

  • Website updates
  • Social networking participation, community outreach
  • List management and communications
  • Research
  • Coordination with staff, activists
  • Online advertising
  • Stats and reporting
  • Campus coordinating
  • Grow marketing ideas in the social Web/media arena
  • Project management
  • Administrative tasks

Requirements

Strong interest in Food & Water Watch issues and commitment to social change. Interest in how social media and traditional media work and what is newsworthy. Interest in how media and communications strategies advance a public interest agenda. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal skills are required. Seeking an enthusiastic self-starter and problem–solver who can handle multiple tasks at once. Experience in social issue organizing, communications, or journalism helpful.
